Good Friday Morning to You!

Welcome to the Friday mailbag, where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by subscribers of this newsletter. They are edited for space and clarity.

“Like many things in my life I, too, was a late bloomer when it came to tying shoes (Cowboy boots, June 13, 2022). Nowadays, I don't look forward to tying my shoes. My belly limits my range of motion when bending over, and I usually get winded when doing so.” – Jimmy

Try tightening your belt. – Shane

“Good morning, Shane. Hope all is going well for you… with your daily messages it feels like we are having coffee every day. That’s probably creepy, but I count it as a good thing.” – Joseph

The feeling of having coffee together isn’t creepy, but the photos of me pasted all over your walls are concerning. – Shane

“Shane, I read your article this morning (Cowboy boots, June 13, 2022) and just had to laugh, and here is why. This weekend I was at my parents’ house helping take care of some things. Well, yesterday morning after I thought I was done and ready to leave, there was something I needed to go out to one of the barns to do. The grass was still really wet, so I decided I would just slip on my dad’s work boots, so I did not get my other shoes all wet. My wife thought the work boots and shorts were a pretty funny look and could not resist the photo opportunity. I just thought I would share as I am sure you will get a kick out of it as well. As you mentioned, not a real good fashion look, but I am not usually accused of that anyway.” – Allan

The shorts/boots combination work for some people, just not you or me. Thanks, Allan. – Shane

“Shane, what a touching column you wrote for the Daily Umbrella today (Grandparents, June 16, 2022). Tears here. We need more Bettys and Bobs in our world today.” - Susan

I wholeheartedly agree. Thank you for the note, Susan. – Shane

Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.

Norwalk graduate now keynote speaker

By Lindsey Giardino

Alex Dorr can’t say enough good things about the community in which he was raised, especially when it comes to his education.
The 2009 Norwalk High School graduate is now a keynote speaker for leadership development company Reality-Based Leadership and typically gives more than 100 speeches a year across the nation helping leaders focus on how to evolve their mindset and be happier at work even under challenging circumstances.

Recently, Dorr, who now lives in a Dallas, Texas, suburb with his wife and two kids, was invited to return to Norwalk and give a speech to students. The experience had him reflecting on the different teachers he had and how his schooling wasn’t just about the curriculum.

His teachers made a point to pose interesting questions and go the extra mile to “work on your mind, not just your knowledge of facts,” he reflects.
