Success isn’t just about what you accomplish in your life; it’s about what you inspire others to do. That’s a fitting quote that I read to those in attendance at the CITYVIEW Business Journal’s “22 from 2022” event last Thursday night at the Sherwood Forest Events Center. This is an annual celebration we host to recognize people who made positive contributions to the central Iowa business community.
We asked for nominations from our readers, and then we narrowed the list down to the folks we deemed as most deserving. That was not an easy task, as we are fortunate to have so many people in our midst who give their time, energy and money to not only grow their businesses but to help promote economic development in general. Of course, many others contribute greatly as well, but we only choose from the nominations we receive. As you read this, you may be thinking of someone who deserves this recognition. Be sure to nominate that person next year.
Our intent was to honor 22 business people, as the event name indicates, but several of the honorees were unfortunately unable to participate this year, for a variety of reasons. We were still able to recognize 16 individuals for their incredible contributions.
As most worthwhile things do, this event has evolved since we started it in 2017. It has become more of a lifetime achievement award than a recognition of successes in a single year. The event was originally tied in with the two business publications we were publishing and mailing to businesses: the Northwest Suburbs Business Journal and the Western Suburbs Business Journal. Ultimately, in a decision to expand the reach of those publications significantly, we merged them into one that is now part of CITYVIEW magazine each month — and, we continued this wonderful event.
Our honorees this year are Jay Brewer, Shirley McAdon, Lu Anne Gafford, Steve Albrecht, Val Veiock, Tom Boesen, Tiffany Luing, Michael Krantz, John Forbes, Claudia Schabel, Brian Buethe, Brenda Easter, Barb Wiedenman, Susan Patterson Plank, Reynolds Cramer and Angela Jackson. This is a great mix of people from various communities, backgrounds, industries and organizations who truly show how everyone can make an impact to the business community. Sharing the contributions from each of these folks reinforced how, when business and industry grows, we all grow. Be sure to check out the story in CITYVIEW’s Business Journal.
I again send my congratulations to each of these business and community leaders, and I look forward to honoring more of these folks whose successes will inspire others in years to come.
Have a magnificent Monday, and thanks for reading.
