Good Friday Morning to You!
Friday, Nov. 25, 2022

Welcome to the Friday mailbag where you will find some of the comments, questions and ideas sent recently by subscribers of this newsletter or our publications. They are edited for space and clarity.

“Kardashians. You hit the nail smack dab on the head (Jammin’ Me, Oct. 20, 2022). You can add the ‘Housewives’ series and all reality TV to that list. BTW, have a jammin’ day. – majjewell

I miss “The Waltons.” Good night, John-Boy. - Shane

“Your column brought back a memory of a dear friend who had a full-size tree so fully decorated that the green seldom showed (Putting up the tree, Nov. 16, 2022). In January, she would secure it tightly in a sheet — decorations, lights, everything. Somehow she managed to get it up the very narrow stairs into her attic where it sat until next November. Down it came, was unwrapped, current decorations adjusted , new decorations added and totally enjoyed until this process was to be repeated in January.” – Ferg

Can a Christmas tree be overdecorated? When the floor starts sagging, yes. - Shane

“My boyfriend and I were heading out to see some friends in Wisconsin (from Chicago). I was under the impression that we were to see them when I became engaged ... however, no ring but there we were traveling to visit them (A Scrabble engagement, Nov. 17, 2022). Needless to say, I was a little upset, as we had picked out the ring about two weeks back. The conversation wasn't very stimulating, as I didn't have anything to say. I tried to hold back my tears, but they came anyway. Don noticed and offered a Kleenex, which I gratefully accepted. Blew my nose, opened the car window, and was about to toss the used tissue out when I heard this very loud ‘DON’T!’ You guessed it. We have been married 55 years, have five kids, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. I still don’t throw Kleenex out a car window!” - Diane

Thank goodness for Kleenex tissue. - Shane

“I enjoyed your story of how you proposed to your wife while playing Scrabble (A Scrabble engagement, Nov. 17, 2022). When you play the game for her birthday, I think you should sing her the Dolly Parton song, ‘Jolene,’ and change the words a little to ask her to play!” - Sharon

Good idea. She loves it when people sing that song to her. - Shane

“Who is Gail Tomlinson, and how is she ALWAYS able to solve the daily riddle? From a fan.” - Debbie

“I am not sure how Gail gets all those answers correct, but her middle name is Trebek.” – Shane

Have a fantastic Friday, and thanks for reading.

Blast from the past

Giese’s cars rekindle memories… and create new ones.

By Becky Kolosik

Tony Giese is a car guy. But not just any cars… old, classic cars. And trucks, too.

“If we’re driving down a gravel road and see an old, rusty car in a backyard or on the side of the road, we always circle back around, and Tony gets out to look at it,” says wife, Cheryl. “I can show him a photo of any old car, and he can name exactly what model/make it is.”

As a young kid, Tony enjoyed reading about cars and trucks in books and magazines. At age 18, he bought his first car — a 1967 Chevy Camaro — from his brother.

“It was red with a black top,” he says. “I can still hear that V8 engine. To this day, nothing can compare to the sights and sounds of a good, old muscle car.”
